Dune 45 Climb

A climb up the sharp crest of Dune 45, a star dune about 80 m high on the road to Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft Park, best at sunrise when the red sand glows and the shadows are long. Walking in soft sand on the narrow ridge is tiring, and the sand burns by midday. A park permit is needed; the gate at Sesriem opens at sunrise.
