The first stage of the Mount Meru climb in Arusha National Park walks through open woodland and rainforest often accompanied by an armed ranger. Giraffe, buffalo and warthog are frequently seen on the lower grasslands. The trail climbs steadily to Miriakamba Hut in a forest clearing below the crater.
