Trail Description

This walk climbs into the Mokattam hills above Cairo to the Monastery of Saint Simon, a huge church carved into the cliff face. The path passes through the Zabbaleen quarter and up to viewpoints over the sprawling city. The cave church amphitheatre seats thousands and is one of Cairo's most striking hidden sights.
