Trail Description

The most popular route up Japan's highest mountain, climbing from the Subaru Line 5th Station to the crater rim. The trail is a long zigzag over volcanic gravel with mountain huts along the way, and most people climb through the night to reach the top for sunrise. Altitude and loose footing, not technical difficulty, are what make it hard.
