Trail description
A 5.3 km climb of about 780 m from Chihaya to the summit area of Mount Kongo, 1,125 m, on the border of Osaka and Nara prefectures. The popular Chihaya route passes near the ruins of Chihaya Castle, where Kusunoki Masashige held out against the Kamakura shogunate, and reaches Tenporin-ji temple, said to have been founded by En no Gyoja, and Katsuragi Shrine near the top. The Mount Kongo Ropeway closed in 2022, so the way down is on foot.
