Trail description

A short 1.2 km climb of about 150 m from the shore of Lake Louise up the Fairview Lookout path to the viewpoint above the lake's south-eastern shore. Lake Louise, called Ho-run-num-nay (Lake of the Little Fishes) by the Stoney Nakoda, is a glacial lake in Banff National Park, and its turquoise colour comes from rock flour carried in by meltwater from the glaciers above it. The Chateau Lake Louise, one of Canada's grand railway hotels, stands on the eastern shore. Fairview Mountain (2,744 m) rises along the south-eastern shoreline and was named in 1894 by Walter Wilcox for the view from its top.
