Mount Naeba

Trail description

Naeba, 2,145 m, is a volcano on the border of Niigata and Nagano and one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, in Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. This route climbs from the Nagano side above the 4th station to the summit. The top is a vast lava plateau of about 600 hectares, covered with a high moor and countless ponds, which Kyuya Fukada compared to the back of a whale. Most of the mountain is a special protection zone of the park, so stay on the boardwalks.
