Trail description

A steep 5.7 km climb of about 1,490 m on the Kutchan (Hirafu) route up Mount Yotei, the 1,898 m 'Ezo Fuji' volcano in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, from the trailhead at about 380 m to the rim of the summit crater. The path goes almost straight up through forest that is often muddy, then over loose volcanic rock above the treeline. The crater, Chichigama, is about 700 m across and a path circles its rim; a round trip takes about nine to ten hours.
