Trail description

Out-and-back climb from the Cerro Baúl entrance up the footpath to the flat summit of this mesa in the Moquegua valley, which rises about 600 m above its surroundings. During the Middle Horizon it was a Wari colony and ceremonial centre, with D-shaped temples, elite houses and stone halls on the summit. The Wari watered the terraces below with a canal of about 10 km from the Torata river. The path is steep and fully exposed to the sun, so start early and carry water.
