Trail description

The walk starts on a path near the Fuente de la Pisadica del Niño Dios, just north of the Collado de la Monticana, and soon joins the SL-A 142 path that climbs from Canillas de Aceituno, following it past the Collado de la Gitana and the Casa de la Nieve to the summit of La Maroma. At about 2,070 m, La Maroma is the highest peak of the Sierra de Tejeda and sits on the border between the provinces of Málaga and Granada, in a massif made mostly of limestone and dolomitic marble. Its name is said to come from the ropes (maromas) once used to climb down into a pit near the summit to gather snow. The walk is about 7.7 km one way with some 970 m of climbing.
