Siete Picos
Trail description
The walk starts at the Puerto de Navacerrada and heads west on the Senda Herreros (PR-M 8), then up the ridge paths through Scots pine and high meadows to the foot of Pico Somontano, at 2,138 m the highest and easternmost of the Siete Picos. It stops at the base of the summit block, which is a scramble and not part of the route. The ridge, on the Madrid–Segovia border in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, takes its name from the seven small granite peaks along its crest, whose irregular rock towers and edges formed along vertical joints in the granite. Pico Somontano is popularly named after the hiker Albino de Somontano, who laid out the path along the foot of the peaks with Herreros. The walk is about 3.0 km one way, with some 285 m of climbing.
