Trail description

The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail from coast to coast: 137.4 km with 1,251 m of climb from Segedunum Roman fort at Wallsend on the Tyne to Bowness-on-Solway on the Solway Firth. It follows the Tyne through Newcastle, then the line of the Roman wall past the forts of Chesters, Housesteads and Birdoswald; the 23-mile central section between Chollerford and Birdoswald, along the Whin Sill, has the most short climbs and descents. It then passes Carlisle and its castle and ends across the Solway salt marshes. The National Trail recommends walking it between May and October, as the path gets muddy in wet weather, and suggests about 7 days.
