Trail Description

"Stepnoy Volk" (route in the Russian Federation) Description: "A 4-day self-sufficient trek through the Orenburg region. 80 km route. No shops available. Springs are present. There is a river crossing on the path. Day 1/4 (29.04) 24 km hiking, sunny, calm. Tents were frosted in the morning. Registered the group with the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MCHS). Started track recording. Set out on the route. First flowers appearing. Passed Chasovaya and Malinova. Spotted roe deer and lizards. First ticks appeared. River crossing at Assel; water is cold and knee-deep. Climbed to Allyan. The base owner allowed us to refill water from a well. Met Oksana Solo Lytkina on the trail and took a selfie. Saw tulips. Second river crossing, then immediately set up the first camp by the road. Day 2/4 (30.04) 26 km hiking, cloudy, windy, rain. Long pack-up in the morning. Set out on the route. Ticks were on every bush and in last year's dry grass. Constant tick removal. Rain started. Climbed Karattau. Strong winds. Hiking shoes are wet and covered in clay. Received a call from MCHS warning about a bear. Stopped for lunch in an abandoned building. Both I and my gear are soaking wet. At the second camp near Yamanskoye Gorge, we saw a bear cub track. The rain didn't stop until after midnight. Day 3/4 (01.05) 22 km hiking, partly cloudy, windy. Drying gear in the morning. Found a tick in my Crocs bag. Set out late. Very few ticks now. Scared off a marmot. Passed Kilkan and Nos. Stopped at a shop in Kondurovka; the shopkeeper arrived by bicycle. Saw many animals throughout the day and even fought off a goose. Set up the third camp by a spring with a table. I was already asleep, but the guys were howling like wolves. Day 4/4 (02.05) 14 km hiking, partly cloudy, windy. The final push. Set out. Legs are aching, but we are moving. Ticks are behind us. Beautiful views. Passed Kosymka; seven peaks behind us. Heading for the eighth, Verblyuzhka. View of the Ural River. Descent.
